Tilt & Turn – the Future of Windows

Superior by design, Tilt and Turn windows are precision engineered to outperform other residential classics. The ultimate fusion of form and function, Tilt & Turn Windows are finally making their entrance onto the American market.

These are European-style type of windows with two distinct functions:

Swing it inwards like a regular in-swing window, or tilt the top of the sash for ventilation. Both operations are performed with the same handle. The tilt position is ideal for circulating fresh air, while preventing access. It's an especially useful solution for environments with small children or animals because they can't access the opening at the top.

The benefits of Tilt & Turn versus the traditional windows

We're often asked about the benefits of Tilt & Turn versus the more traditional swing windows. There are several: adjustability, convenience, safety, energy conservation, security, ease of operation, versatility, and aesthetics. All of these factors are superior in the new Tilt & Turn models to their predecessors:

  • The opening sash on tilt and turn windows can be easily adjusted with a singular tool.

  • New advanced materials used in seals and gaskets offer optimal energy efficiency, and top notch air and water infiltration characteristics.

  • Vetrina's Tilt & Turn windows are made from aluminum, and utilize dual-sealed warm edge spacers which minimizes wear and tear, and ensures lifetime protection from the elements with no degradation over time.

  • Tilt & Turn windows are exceptionally easy to operate and maintain thanks to them being "in-swing", so the outside of the window can easily be cleaned by simply opening the window.

  • Easily achieve an airflow, even in inclement weather conditions, and without completely opening the window, by just turning the handle and tilting the window from the top inwards a few degrees.

  • Safety and security are major components of the overall quality of products such as windows that have a direct effect on people's lives. To the point where some companies employ ex-burglars as consultants. The consensus on that is that most traditional hung windows can be broken into in minutes by an experienced pro.

This is not the case with Tilt & Turn windows that have a much higher resistance to forced entry due to inherent characteristics of design, but also thanks to new multi-point locking mechanisms and hidden muchroom pins that don't expose the locking hardware to the outside, making it inaccessible from the outside.

And as far as fundamental safety goes, Tilt & Turn windows offer unparalleled peace of mind because it's simply impossible to fall out of a window tilted at the top.

With Tilt & Turn windows,‘form follows function

In terms of aesthetics – Tilt & Turn windows usually result in a ‘form follows function’ streamlined modern look, which works great with most contemporary interiors right out of the box. However, there are instances when the existing architecture dictates a traditional or even historic look. Not to worry - Tilt & Turn windows can still be a perfect solution.

For example, at Vetrina, we are able to masterfully replicate any historic look, and match new windows to existing architectural styles. Below are some examples of Tilt & Turn windows we manufactured to match the historic look of The Atlantic, a 1920s Beaux Arts apartment building in center city Philadelphia, which we've helped to renovate in 2018.
